Brown Manganese Dioxide

Manganese Dioxide is blackish or brown solid occurs naturally as the mineral pyrolusite, which is the main ore of manganese. It is also present in manganese nodules. The principal use for MnO₂ is for dry-cell batteries, such as the alkaline battery and the zinc-carbon battery.

Uses     ：used as oxidant, also used in steel, glass, ceramics, enamel, dry, matches, medicine, etc

Oxidant:

Manganese dioxide is used as an oxidant in organic synthesis.

Catalyst :

MnO₂ is used as a catalyst (A catalyst is used to speed up a chemical reaction) in the classical laboratory preparation of oxygen from potassium chlorate. A mixture of potassium chlorate and manganese dioxide is heated 
in a hard glass container and the oxygen gas collected over water.

Water Treatment Plant：

MnO₂ is used in combination with anthracite, sand, and gravel in industrial water treatment plants.

Steel Industry:

Manganese is used in steel alloys to increase many favorable characteristics such 
as strength, hardness and durability. In fact steel cannot be produced without manganese; it is an essential ingredient in the process.

Chemicals:

It is used for the production chemicals like Oxygen & Chlorine.

MgO₂ is also used as a micro nutrient in fertilizers & animal feeds.
