Hydroxypropyl Guar Gum (HPG) is manufactured by reacting a highly purified guar stock with propylene oxide. The highly purified guar is achieved by exposing the guar endosperm splits to a series of acid and water soaks to remove the majority of the hull and embryo prior to grinding. The purification reduces the impurities in the guar to approximately 2% insoluble material. The resulting HPG molecule is nonionic.
