Reaming shells are important parts of wireline core barrels. Their functions include reaming, stabilizing and maintaining the diameter of drilling hole. The recommended practice is to alternate two reaming shells in each hole drilled to maintain hole diameter. Upon bit changes ,the reaming shell should be checked for wear with bit and shell wear gauge .Failure to observe these practices will result in either a poorly stabilized or an undersized hole that will require costly reaming.
