Huperzine A is a plant alkaloid derived from the Huperzia serrata. Huperzine A is an Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor similar to other compounds donepezil, rivastigmine, and galantamine. It is the treatment of senile dementia specific drug that can improve memory. Huperzine A derivatives are being developed for pharmaceutical application, and now are sold as a dietary supplement for memory support. Because of possible activities in the brain, Huperzine A also is being considered for potential use in preventing nerve gas poisoning
