Cardamom powder is derived from the spice cardamom, which is one of the world's oldest spices.
 
An interesting aspect was that in ancient Egypt Cardamom was not only used in the culinary arts as a seasoning, but also as a base for creating cosmetic products and perfumes.
 
Another application was for medicinal purposes as an herbal remedy; which it is still commonly used for today.
 
The seeds of the plant are pressed to create the extract. This extract can be added to foods or can be used as a topical application.
 
Cardamom is abundant in Southern Asia, especially on the island of Sri Lanka and thrives mainly in high elevation forests. Because of its popularity, it is now grown commercially in other areas as well.
