Quartz glass has excellent optic spectrum property. It can transmit far UV spectrum, is the best one of all UV transmitting materials, and also transmit visible light and near infra-red spectrum. The user can select any item within the wave-range of 185nm-3500nm. For its excellent properties, such as high temperature proof, low thermal expansion, chemical stability, thermal stability, and similar to ordinary optical glass in bubble, striation, homogeneity, birefringence, optical quartz glass became an essential optical material for high stability optical system under worst conditions.
Thermal expansion coefficient of quartz glass is very small, only 5.5x10-7 per centigrade, that is 1/12--1/20 of the common glass. When heated the sample to 1200 centigrade and immediately throw into cool water three times, couldn't split up. The zero expansion coefficient material from the quartz glass with titanium is used in laser technique, astronomical and frontier techniques.
Quartz glass has a very high dielectric strength but a very low electric conductivity, even at high temperature, high voltage and high frequency, nearly without electric loss in the range of the frequencies applied. Therefore quartz glass is an excellent high temperature dielectric material.
Far ultraviolet optical quartz glass: 185--2500nm. There isn't absorbent peak within this range. Transmission more than 80% at 185nm.
Ultraviolet optical quartz glass: 220--2500nm. There is absorbent peak at 2730nm.
Infrared optical quartz glass:260--3500nm.
