Resveratrol (3,5,4′-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) is a stilbenoid, a type of natural phenol, and a phytoalexin produced by several plants in response to injury or when the plant is under attack by pathogens such as bacteria or fungi. Sources of resveratrol in food include the skin of grapes, blueberries, raspberries, mulberries, lingonberry and senna.

Resveratrol is part of a group of compounds called polyphenols. They act as antioxidants, protecting the body against damage that can put you at higher risk for things like cancer and heart disease. It’s gained a lot of attention for its anti-aging and cardioprotective powers. Resveratrol could help reduce inflammation, limit the spread of cancer cells and prevent diabetes.

Heart Disease

It’s thought to help reduce inflammation, lower LDL or "bad" cholesterol, and make it more difficult for clots to form that can lead to a heart attack.
