This kind of steel contains manganese 10% ~ 15%, the carbon content is high, generally 0.90% to 1.50%, most of it is above 1%. The chemical composition is (%):

The high manganese steel, such as Si0.30 ~ 1 S less than 0.05 P less than 0.10, is used to make the shovel teeth of the excavator, the rolling face and broken wall of the cone crusher, the jaw crusher plate, the ball mill liner, the railway track switch, the board hammer, the hammer head and so on.
The as cast structure of the above mentioned high manganese steel is usually composed of austenite, carbide and pearlite, sometimes containing a small amount of phosphorus eutectic. When carbides are large, they often appear on the grain boundaries. Therefore, the as cast high manganese steel is brittle and cannot be used, and solid solution treatment is needed. The commonly used heat treatment method is solid solution treatment. The steel is heated to 1050~1100 C, heat preservation is used to remove the cast microstructure, and the single-phase austenite structure is obtained, and then water quenched to keep the structure to normal temperature. After heat treatment, the strength, plasticity and toughness of steel have been greatly improved, so this heat treatment method is often referred to as water toughening. It can reach HB300 ~ 400 when low impact load, and it can reach HB500 ~ 800 when high impact load. The surface hardened layer can reach 10 to 20mm with different impact load. The hardened layer with high hardness can resist impact abrasive wear. High manganese steel has excellent wear resistance under the condition of strong impact abrasive wear, so it is often used in mining, building materials, thermal power and other mechanical equipment to make wear-resistant parts. Under the condition of low impact, the effect of work hardening is not obvious. High manganese steel can not play the role of material.
