Titanium yellow is also known as nickel titanium yellow. It is a relatively new pigment. Yellow powder. It is yellow due to its inclusion of niobium and nickel. The relative density is 4.4. Its main component is rutile TiO2. Excellent heat resistance, about 1000 °C. Because it is lead free, it is very stable to sulfides. It has excellent light resistance, acid and alkali resistance. The coloring power is slightly inferior to other yellow pigments, but the hiding power is strong and the toxicity is small.
Uses: Mainly used as plastic coloring agent, accounting for about 60% of its total output. Used for coatings of approximately 30%. The rest are used in rubber, printing inks and painting tools.
Method: The ilmenite is decomposed into sulfuric acid to form a liquid, and the latter is hydrolyzed to form titanium oxide, and nickel oxide and cerium oxide are added thereto, and calcined and pulverized at 1000 to 1100 °C.
