[Plant form] Perennial herb, up to 1 meter. The rhizome is erect, with densely lanceolate scales at the base of the petiole. The leaves are clustered, two-type, vegetative leaves oblong-oblanceolate, 45-90 cm long, 14-25 cm wide, bipinnately deeply lobed, with more than 10 pairs of pinnae in the lower part, which gradually narrows down into ear-shaped, short petioles The sporophyte is shorter, the petiole is longer, a pinnate, and the pinna is rolled down into a noded pod, covering the sporangium.

[Original distribution] Born in the forest or in the damp place of the valley. Distributed in Hebei, Henan, Shaanxi and other places.

[Harvesting and processing] The rhizomes are excavated in spring and autumn, the aerial parts are cut off, and dried in the sun.

[Medicinal properties] The whole body is obovate or conical, the upper end is blunt and round, and the lower part is slightly pointed, 8-15 cm long and 6.5-8 cm in diameter. The rhizome is erect or slightly oblique, surrounded by petiole residues and fibrous roots. The petiole base is flat and triangular, the upper part is wide and the lower part is thin, inwardly curved, 3-7 cm long, the surface is black-brown, the back has 5-6 longitudinal ribs, and the middle one is obviously raised. Hard in texture, light brown in cross-section, with 2 split central columns, arranged in the shape of an inverted "eight". Gas micro, slightly astringent taste.
