The copper material is easy to bend while still maintaining its strength. When first woven, copper has a yellowish-red color that gradually develops a greenish-blue patina called verdigris.

Outdoors, this discoloration can become noticeable in less than six months in wet climates, but it may stay untarnished for years in dry, desert conditions. You can prevent this natural patina by applying lacquer, wax, or periodically oiling the mesh to protect it from the elements.
