Nature:

it is a white crystalline or a little yellow crystalline. Soluble in water, slightly soluble in  alcohol, insoluble in benzene, ether and petroleum ether etc., Esters will be formed by reaction with  common organic acid; no reaction take place when it is heated with dilute caustic solution.
