Aluminum conductor steel-reinforced
1) Standards: IEC AND BS STRANDARS
2) Used as overhead power transmission line
ACSR is widely used as overhead power transmission and distribution lines.
Aluminum Conductors Steel Reinforced (ACSR conductors), as their name s ests, consist of a solid or stranded steel core and is surrounded by strands of Electrolytic grade aluminum. The steel core imparts high mechanical strength to ACSR conductors, which are therefore suitable to be used for river crossings, overhead transmission lines, installations involving extra long spans etc. For any given resistance, ACSR conductors can be manufactured having a wide range of tensile strength as per customer requirements. The principal advantages of these conductors are high tensile strength and high mechanical strength to weight ratio, and therefore they are used for longer spans with fewer supports and lesser sag at a given tension. ACSR is preferred for its capacity to withstand extreme wind loads. Due to the greater diameter of ACSR conductors corona losses are low; the result in substantial savings is high as well as the extra high voltage overhead transmission.
Applications:
Used as bare overhead transmission cable and as primary and secondary distribution cable, ACSR offers optimal strength for line design. Variable steel core stranding enables desired strength to be achieved without sacrificing capacity.
Construction:
When connecting conductors, the conductor near to the connecting tube can’t be prominent. Otherwise, the force on the operating conductors will be unbalanced after connectors are pressed. The connecting tube should be plated by moisture proof in order to protect from corroding. Under installation, the arc downing stress of all the conductors at home with the distance between the ground and across building can be 10-15% higher than regular tension.
The permissible long-time operating temperature for aerial conductor is 70℃.
If the circumstance that long distance, rare climate and ice coverage occur, the biggest stress of cable at the lowest arc downing point should not exceed 60% of the destructive power at a short time.
Remarks
Any crush or bump should be avoided during handling and transporting the products.
The cable drum is not allowed to be placed with one flange up and the other down during transportation and storage of the products.
A moisture-proof measure should be taken during storage of the product.
