AIS Introduction
AIS Class-BAutomatic Identification System is a kind of Radio Communication and Navigation Collision Avoidance Equipment installed in ships for inland river shipping, port operating, coastal fishing, coastal defense and other fields.
“Ship-Ship”System
This equipment can achieve ship collision avoidance, information exchange, ship positioning, distance alarming and other functions. And to a large extent, it makes up the lack of ARPA radar. It can avoid monitoring difficulties for objects in island shadow or heavy rain and for small objects, so as to effectively avoid errors for the ship identification, positioning accuracy and ship type identification.
l AIS equipment can, in the absence of the crew, automatically and continuously send navigation data and status information to base stations and equipment on other ships.
l AIS equipment provide standard bi-direction RS232/RS422 interface and can be connected to and can work with radar, electronic chart display, information system, satellite navigation devices, etc.
l When vessels encounter special circumstances and need help, “SRM” button can be pressed and send out SOS message to surrounding vessels, this SOS message includes the vessel MMSI number and rescue signal “MAYDAY”?
“Ship—Ship—Shore”System
l AIS is an effective supplement to VTS. AIS can expand VTS working scope and improve VTS accuracy, add ship identification function, so as to improve the efficiency of the VTS operators.
l By the use of AIS, all visualized vessels headings, routes, vessel names and other information can be displayed on VTS electronic chart, so as to improve marine communications and provide a communication method for ship by voice and text to enhance vessels global awareness.
l Use AIS system to support ship tracking and identification and more extensive data can be provided to VTS, this is a very important information support to improve and enhance VTS function.
