Therapy principle
A Biological stimulation: Light chemistry on skin by intensive pulse light will enable collagen fiber and stretch fiber bosom in derma to change molecular structure to restore to original elasticity. In addition, the light energy produced can tone up the blood vessel to improve circulation so as to eliminate wrinkle and to reduce pore in size.
B Light-energy-melting: Since the pigment groups contained inside the pathological change tissues are far more than those inside the ordinary skin tissues, the temperature increase upon light absorption of the pigments is higher than the one by the ordinary skin tissue. The temperature difference can block out the blood vessel of pathological change, which finally can decompose the pigments and do not destroy ordinary tissues.
C The operation method of IPL system is based on selective light-energy-melting as well. The dark pigments can absorb relatively short-wavelength light between 250-1200nm, while light absorption peak value of oxygenated hemoglobin is at 418, 542 and 577nm respectively. Thus, the wavelength light at 530nm can be easily absorbed by dark pigments and oxygenated hemoglobin, which can produce energy to destroy the collagen fiber. It is understood that collagen fiber can greatly absorbs lights at the wavelength between 400-600nm. Therefore, part of the light at the wavelength between 530-1200nm by IPL system can be absorbed by collagen fiber, which leads to activation of fiber cell and increase of collagen synthesis. Not only can increase of Type I collagen be seen, but also of Type III collagen. Because most of Type III collagen can be seen around blood vessel, IPL system can effectively change precipitation of pigment, abate expansion of capillary vessel, alleviate fine wrinkle, contract pore and improve skin texture and overall character.
II Therapy scope
1 Effectively cure facial redness (dilation of capillary vessel), remove facial redness.
2 Effectively contract pore, remove or alleviate tumefaction and scar.
3 Increase thickness of skin collagen and restore skin elasticity.
4 Furthest clean or reduce freckle, age pigment and other kinds of pigment precipitation etc.
5 Furthest clean or alleviate the pigment precipitation caused by suntan to whiten skin.
6 Smoothen fine wrinkle or alleviate facial shrinks and dark eye rim.
7 Improve the pigment precipitation caused by the traditional therapy, and meliorate minor skin pathological change.
8 On non-facial skin: whiten body skin.
9 Skin tendering can be achieved in combination with other cosmetology methods.
10 Remove or restrain excessive hair growth.
Side effect
The whole skin tendering process by IPL system takes about 3 to 6 times with 21-45 days interval between each time. It is found that skin quality has been improved dramatically. At meantime, it can assure that patients do not need to change the schedule to be in conformity with the periods. Of course, temporary slight side effect may occur. But most symptoms may appear as follow:
Pains: some patients may feel pain at different grade when intensive pulse transmits. Some says it feels like pin piercing, while others say it feels like being flipped by rubber band. And perception of burn can last as long as one hour. Most adults and senior children can put up with this kind of discomfort, but some patients request for partial anesthesia.
Breakage of skin natural texture: it may cause scab or blain, which takes 5-10 days to recover.
Alternation of pigment precipitation: it may alter pigment precipitation within the treated skin. Most of the excessive or insufficient pigment precipitation may appear on the dark skin or on the skin exposed to the sun light. To some patients, exposition to the sunlight after operation can cause pigment precipitation, which takes 3-6 months to recover. But permanent pigment precipitation may occur occasionally. Freckle and beauty spot may become dark in color after surgery. But it will disappear in a short period.
Scar: the possibility of scar (such as large size scar or very few or other unnamed abnormal hyperplasia tissue) produced by IPL system is very tiny. In order to reduce the danger of scar after surgery, please comply with the post-surgery care.
Excessive red turgescence: temporary turgescence with skin on nose may occur after surgery, which takes 3-7 days to recover.
Skin fragility: the skin within or around the treated skin may become fragile. Do not make up at this time, nor rub the treated skin to avoid skin from avulsion.
Excessive blue turgescence: blue turgescence may occur to the skin within the treated skin and will last as long as 5-15 days. Then it may become rusting red color, which takes about 1-3 weeks to recover.
3) Basic knowledge of IPL system
(i) Each surgery will treat the entire face, which is more effective in terms of surgery effect to the partial pathological change than the laser treatment.
(ii) The time consumption is quite short for about 20 min. The surgery effect varies with the patient, according to parameter selection or other cosmetology involved during surgery and etc.
(iii) IPL SR/HR system can adopt light therapy head at 530nm and 610nm respectively according to the pressure proportion.
Note: generally, short wavelength at 530nm can treat Type I, II, III,IV skin, while long wavelength at 610nm can treat Type IV and V skin. The first pulse test shall reduce the energy density by 20% for those patients with dark skin. If no obvious change has taken place in 15 min, need to change the therapy head.
(iv) Therapy head with 610nm can also treat all types of skin, which can penetrate into collagen level to have “ second time scan” therapy.

4) Treatment procedure
(i) Patients have to close the eyes and sit in the therapy chair or lie in the bed. Operator shall wear the protection glass and remind the patients to keep eyes closed during surgery. Operator shall select the most suitable place to carry out the surgery.
(ii) Press the start to transmit the light pulse.
(iii) If extra surgery is required to coordinate the effect, operator shall select the energy density accordingly to achieve the better effect. But before that, the facula test is to be carried out.
(iv) Skin tendering and depilation shall use cooling head.
(v) No post-surgery care is required after the surgery. And patients can go back to work as before. But general anti suntan has to be carried out to the treated skin. And appropriate skin tendering can help IPL system to smoothen pigment groups, decrease pore in size, lighten pigment precipitation and alleviate light aging process.
(vi) After surgery, color precipitation and brown facula in color will deepen, which takes a few days to recover.
Therapy procedure
(i) Select one group of relevantly short pulse width as testing parameter (advised by manufacturer): No. of pulse is 2, width of first pulse is15ms, repeating frequency is 1HZ.
(ii) Start with unobvious skin such as front side of ear. Apply 2-3mm condensation glue on it, which may help intensive light pulse to cool and to penetrate into skin.
(iii) Put the therapy head upright to the condensation glue, and the light transmitting crystal can touch the condensation glue instead of skin.
(iv) Transmit: test the pulse (system will charge automatically). Clean off the condensation glue to examine the skin reaction. If skin is reddish, it means that light energy has sound penetration. If not, just increase 1-2 J/cm2. (Or increase pulse width by 1ms). If skin is red or ever becomes purpura, just decrease the energy density. (or decrease width) darker skin may have longer reaction than the lighter one.
(v) If no abnormal reaction is found, go on with the treatment with the same parameter. Do not have the repeated covering rate of light pulse smaller than 1mm.
5) Post-surgery care
Summary
Blain or ulcer on skin produced after surgery can be treated with antibiotics or ointment for burn. Low chroma ointment can be applied as well.
If blain gets scab, use Vaseline to keep the skin moistening.
Suntan
Patients shall use highly factor light-shielding ointment to keep the treated skin from the sunlight. Sunlight may cause dark pigment to repeat production, which may lead to excessive pigment precipitation.
Make-up
Most doctors permit patients to use cosmetics after surgery. But they demand that if any scab or breakage on the treated skin is found, patients shall inform the hospital immediately and shall stop make-up. Generally, the risk of low energy skin tendering surgery by IPL system is very tiny, which enables patients to go back to normal life safely after surgery.
Continuous treatment
The following are the s estions regarding the continuous treatment, which can be referred to by doctors.
Patients shall further consult with the doctor within 3-5 weeks after each therapy period ( 3-6 times of treatment), and are advised to keep long-term treatment. Generally, pathological change such as grog blossom may take as long as one year to be in control.
Side effect
If any side effect is found during treatment, stop treatment. It can not be carried out until the side effect disappears or the actual reason is found.
Therapy over
It depends on the actual effect achieved. Generally, if the reddish dot, capillary vessel expansion or pigment precipitation on the skin decreases, or the skin texture, sunlight burn or light aging grade has been improved, the therapy is over.
