Kelly is the drive part of the whole drill string, is transmitting the torsional energy from the rotary table to the bit in the bottom of the hole. The precision machined Kelly is a heavy square or hexagonal steel bar supported by the swivel through the rotary table and connected to the first joint of drill pipe in the drill string.

Vigor's Kelly is manufactured from AISI 4145H, fully heat treated alloy steel with a Brinell hardness range of 285-341HB and a minimum average Charpy impact value of 40ft-lbs. Full length is inspected by ultrasonic test. Flats are precision milled to a strict tolerance surpassed API Specification. Straightness is fully controlled during each process.
