[What is Grapefruit]
Citrus paradisi is the botanical name for grapefruit. Most grapefruit varieties are somewhatbitter-tasting with a sweet, citrus aroma. The pulp may be yellow, pink, or red in color. Its common name Is thought to have derived from the grape-like growth characteristic, as the fruits are commonly found in cluters on the tree. The fruit has been known by many names throughout its history --- pummelo grapefruit , shaddock, pink grapefruit, white grapefruit, and forbidden fruit.

[What is Grapefruit Extract Naringin]
Naringin is the major flavonoid glycoside in grapefruit and gives juice its bitter taste. It is metabolized to the flavanone naringenin in humans .Both naringin and hesperetin, which are the aglycones of naringin and hesperidin, occur naturally in citrus fruit. Naringin exerts a variety of pharmacological effects such as antioxidant activity, blood lipid lowering, anticancer activity, and inhibition of select Mod drug metabolizing cytochrome P450 enzymes, including CYP3A4 and CYP1A2, which may result in drug in vivo.
It is a flavanone glycoside. It is a major flavonoid in grapefruit and gives the grapefruit juice its bitter taste. It is metabolized to the flavanone naringenin in humans. Both naringenin and hesperidin, which are the aglyconesof naringin and hesperidin, occur naturally in citrus fruits. In commercial grapefruit juice production, the enzyme naringinase is used to remove the bitterness created by naringin.

[Use of Grapefruit Extract Naringin]
When naringin is treated with potassium hydroxide or another strong base, and then catalytically hydrogenated, it becomes a naringin dihydrochalcone, a compound roughly 300-1800 times sweeter than sugar at threshold concentrations.
