Description:

Slag stopping plug is a cone shaped plug with a refractory covered guiding rod(as shown in figure),it has a 3 slot design which is enough for the liquid metal to flow and block the slag.

The slag stopping plugs density is between the molten steel and slag densities,for that reason it floats between 

the molten steel and the slag.The size is determined on the converter type and taphole diameter,if it’s too small

 it will float even on the slag,if it’s too big it will plug in the taphole prematurely.When 1/3 of the molten steel in 

the converter is left,the slag stopping plug is entered to the converter,and by the delivery equipments 

calibration on the guiding rod is positioned inside the tahole mouth and then released.It is weighted lighter on 

the rod side and heavier on the plug side,and by the help of the delivery mechanisms positioning capability it 

stays on top of the tahole until the metal level puts it right into it,letting the steel flow and blocking the slag.

The cone shaped plug partially enters the tahole,thereby preventing any slag flow into the lasle.The 3 slots on 

the side of the plug is just enough for molten steel to flow,which increases the success rae up to 98%. 

The Properties of Slag Stopping Plug

The slag stopping plug is made of high-density refractory products by vibration shaping and low-temperature baking system.Compared to the slag stopping ball,it has higher bulk density,more resistant to 

impacts,bursts and erosions.It’s unique structure doesn’t effect the flow of the steel.
