Refined sunflower oil is non volatile oil that is used in a variety of cuisines. It is light coloured oil with a natural flavour and superior quality. It is rich in Vitamin E and anti oxidants and has a longer shelf life without hydrogenation. This product is popular for use as cooking oil.
The oil is compressed from the sunflower seed, otherwise known as the Helianthus Annuus. Once refined, the oil changes from light amber to a pale yellow colour. It has a mild flavour and very little is lost during the refining process. One of the main reasons why this oil is a popular choice is its excellent cooking and frying ability and content levels of vitamin E, squalene, sterols, aliphatic hydrocarbons, terpene and methyl ketones.
Once refined, several oil types can be produced from this product including high linoleic, high oleic and mid oleic. There are of course differences between the refined and unrefined versions. For starters, the smoking point of refined sunflower oil is 232 C and unrefined it is 107 C.
