The main supporting unit of overhead transmission line is transmission tower. Transmission towers have to carry the heavy transmission conductor at a sufficient safe height from ground. In addition to that all towers have to sustain all kinds of natural calamities.

Advantages of lattice towers comparing to tubular tower: 
1. The capacity of latticed tower members and connections can be described by relatively simple formulae. 
2. Modeling and design is relatively easy. 
3. Deflection of guyed lattices towers will be much higher as compared to self supported towers and monopoles. 
4. The dynamic overall behaviour of lattice towers is ideal for wind turbines. 
5. The configuration of latticed towers can be easily adjusted to accommodate several electric circuits and various types of conductor configurations. 
Tower cost and fabrication: 
1. Monopoles are generally more costly than lattice angle towers due to higher cost of plates. 
2. Monopole requires specialized plate bending machine with high capital cost. 
3. Lattice towers using angle sections are very easy to fabricate with quick factory setup. 
4. The thickness of monopole plate increases rapidly with tower height and loads. Galvanization of monopole sections are much difficult than angle sections. 
Transportation: Lattice angle sections can be bundled as per available capacity of trucks and hence easy to transport. Sizes and weights of tower members to be transported are less when compared with tubular steel poles. 
Erection: Extremely flexible scheduling on a building site, with many jobs of work performed parallel. Erection of lattice towers can be carried out using gin poles or floating derricks where crane erection is not possible.

Manufacturing Process: Cutting, stamping, straightening, punching, notching, bending and heel gringding. Then the next and very important process is galvanizing. 
Details of galvanization: 
1. Degreasing of tower parts with Sodium Hydroxide solution. 
2. Pickling to clean up the surface with HCl solution 
3. Rinsing twice with fresh water to remove the acid content. 
4. Fluxing wth synth flux to prepare surface for galvanizing. 
5. Drying on hot plate. 
6. Dipping in zinc bath with 99.95% pure zinc at 450° C to 465° C temperature. 
7. Quenching in water. 
8. Dichromating. 
9. The galvanizing thickness is normally 460G/M² For members below 5mm thickness, and 610G/M² For memebers above 5mm thickness. 
Then after galvanization, towers are ready to deliver.
