It is steam distilled from the dried roots and rootlets of Valerian plant. Valerian is grown in India and Nepal. The oil is pale yellow to yellow in color and has a very strong, earthy and balsamic odor. It is used in perfumery compounds, flavors, tobacco compounds, aromatherapy and pharmaceuticals.
