Reactively sintered carborundum slab is a kind of high-quality refractory which features high temperature resistance, attack resistance, thermal shock resistance, high thermal conductivity and high mechanical intensity. It is difficult to make the highly compact material by pressureless sintering since carborundum is a covalent bond compound, unless by special process or the second phase substance to stimulate the sintering.

     The reactively sintered carborundum is made as follows: firstly to mix α-SiC and graphite powder and press the mixture into green bodies; secondly to sinter the green bodies with Si under the temperature of 1600℃--1700℃, during which the C inside the bodies reacts with the permeating Si to form β-SiC, which combines withα-SiC to fill up the pores to form the nonporous compact reactively sintered body.

     Product property:

(1) good thermal conductivity and oxidation resistance, excellent energy conservation, used for daily ceramics kilns.

(2) good thermal shock stability, good transformation resistance under high temperature, turning-over free after long working, remarkably increasing sintering quality of ceramics and decreasing working intensity of workers.

(3) smooth surface, without falling slags, long serving life more than 3 times domestic ones.

(4) good quick heating and cooling resistance, no cracking under temperature up and down of no more than 300℃ within 1 hour.
