Santos Mahogany is a rich, dark mahogany-colored wood thatis is extremely dense and stable. Its superior hardness and color fastness makeit an excellent choice over genuine mahogany, which is too soft for mostflooring uses.

Site Sanding/ Finishing: All finishes seemto work on Santos. However, we havehad some recent reports that Santosadversely affects the way the flattening agents in some oil-based satinfinishes settle leaving a blotchy finish. Also, in the summer, when ones openthe packs of flooring, many times there will be spots of oil which have bledout of the flooring when it got heated. As far as we know, this oil has notadversely affected any oil-or water-based finish.
Allergic Reactions: SantosMahogany is known as incensio or balsamo in many countries wher it has beennamed for its strong scent when fresh cut. The scent quickly dissipates once itages. This scent has been known to cause adverse respiratory reactions in someindividuals when working with the dust of this wood so care should be taken.
