Gabion Mattress

The Gabion mattresses, also known as rock filled mattresses and gabion mattresses, which are the cushion-shaped engineering components made of double-twisted hexagonal hole’wire mesh with thickness much less than length and width. The gabion mattresses are filled with rocks etc. to connect into one. They are used for scour protection structures of embankments, bank slopes, and coasts for water conservation, which have advantages of flexibility and adaptability to groundwork.

The difference between gabion mattress and gabion box is that the height of mattress is relatively lower, the structural style is flatter and bigger, and the diameter of coating steel wire is thinner than gabion box, which generally has two types of double diaphragm (with diameter of steel wire of 2.0 mm) and single diaphragm (with diameter of steel wire of 2.2 m). The double diaphragm gabion mattresses are in common use, which have the advantages of convenient construction, effective prevention for rock collapse as slope protection, and increase of anti-scouring capacity of structure, etc.
