FAQ

How does induction lighting work?

Induction Lighting, unlike most other light technologies, does not use electrodes to create illumination. Rather than using electrodes or filaments, which is typically the first failure point
in a fluorescent lamp, induction lamps use magnets to conduct electricity. And with no electrodes to fail the Induction Light will last up to 100,000 hours.

Simply, here's how it works: rings with magnetic coils create an electromagnetic field using high frequency generated by an electronic ballast. This field goes around a glass tube and the closed loop formed by the discharge path is induced by the coils, causing acceleration of free electrons that collide with mercury atoms and excite the electrons. As the electrons reach a lower, more stable level, they give off energy in the form of invisible UV light. The UV light strikes the phosphorous lining in the tube, creating a reaction that changes the UV light to a harmless,
white visible light.

How long has induction lighting been around?

Induction technology isn't new; it was invented in the late 1890s by one of the great scientists of 19th and 20th centuries, Nikola Tesla, who lit 200 lamps without wires from 25 miles away to prove his concept and introduce it to the world. Although an established and very reliable technology, until recently induction has not been widely used or even commercially available. New developments have broken down the barriers of costs and solved the technological setbacks such as EMC interference, lumen depreciation, ability to dim and a useful range of available wattages. Today the obvious benefits make it a clear-cut choice for many lighting applications over traditional light sources.

Why does the lamp and ballast last so long?

Induction lamps are completely sealed and have no filaments or electrodes penetrating the glass walls. There is no possibility of thermal stress at the places where wires penetrate the glass walls as there are no wires, no filaments and no electrodes inside the lamp to evaporate. With no electrodes to fail, Induction Light Technology lasts up to 100,000 hours.

How is the penetration of light compared to HID?(induction grow lights)

SN gives you 360 degrees of high quality lighting for your plant. HID lighting is a point source, meaning it is very intense at the center and then falls off from there. The SN light fixture will create a blanket of light over your plants. By mounting your light much closer to the plant canopy than you can with HID, you will get the most intense and deep light penetration possible to all parts of your crop. Typical HID lights have to be mounted away from the canopy, or use expensive heat mitigation techniques to get close enough for a blanket type effect, but can still never get as close as SN.

The closer you are, the more penetration you will have!
