Recovery Taps are used for recovery of drill pipe, casing when the accidents happen during drilling.

Spear taps are used to remove stuck or damaged drill rods from the borehole. Double taper taps can recover both the drill rod tube and the tool joint or coupling, depending where the breakage occurs. This eliminates the need to purchase two separate taps.
Bell taps are used to cover drill rods, couplings etc., which cannot be retrieved used a spear tap because of damaged, broken or burred ends.
All fishing taps are available with either right-hand or left-hand threads. Right-handed taps are used to pull out the complete string from the hole. If the string is stuck fast, a left-handed tap may be used to unscrew the free part of the string.
All fishing tools are surface hardened and have cutting flutes running down the length of the tap.
