In general formula R-SO3H, R is a hydrocarbon group. Sulfonic acid is mostly synthetic product, only a few kinds of sulfonic acid such as NH2CH2CH2SO3H exist in nature. Sulfonic acid group is a strong water-soluble strong acid group, and sulfonic acid is water-soluble strong acid compound.
