Vietnam' s steel exports rose 41 per cENt year-on-year in January-September Vietnam' s steel exports increased year-on-year in both September and the first nine months, owing to weak domestic buying activity as a result of the embargo restrictions imposed in response and increased demand from Asean, the United States and Europe. Vietnam exported 1.36 million tons of steel in September, up 32% from a year earlier, and exports exceeded imports by 67% , according to the GENeral Administration of Customs. Vietnam and developmENt group said its exports of finished steel rose strongly in September. Vietnam' s steel exports reached 9.86 million tonnes in the first nine months of this year, up 41 per cENt from a year earlier, drivEN mainly by increased demand for steel in foreign markets and domestic purchases hampered by restrictions on the embargo. China is the main export destination for Vietnam' s steel exporters, exporting 2.12 million tons of steel to China in January-September, but down 16.2 percENt from the same period last year. Vietnam' s steel exports to Asean countries increased in the January-September period. Of this, steel exports to the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia increased by 64.5 per cENt, 20.4 per cENt and 19.6 per cENt, respectively. In addition, Vietnam has also increased steel exports to the European Union and the United States, mainly plate. Vietnam' s steel exports to the US rose about fivefold to 665,000 tonnes in the January-September period from a year earlier.
