SAF Brake Pads convert the kinetic energy of the vehicle into thermal energy through friction. Two brake pads are included in the brake with their friction surfaces facing the rotor. When hydraulic braking is employed, the caliper clamps or squeezes two brake pads together against the spinning rotor to slow and stop the vehicle. When the brake pads heat up from contact with the rotor, it transfers a small amount of friction material to the disc and leaves a dark grey coating on the disc.
