White fine powder or colorless rhombic crystal. Soluble in ammonium chloride and ammonium nitrate solution, insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ammonium carbonate solution and ammonia water, insoluble in alcohol. Boiling in ammonium chloride is converted to soluble strontium chloride. The carbon dioxide is liberated when exposed to acid or heated to 1340°C. In water containing carbon dioxide gas, it can dissolve to form strontium bicarbonate. When hydrogen sulfide gas is added to the suspension of water, sulfur is produced. In nature, strontium carbonate also exists in the form of strontium ore.
