Outdoor load break switches are commonly used switching devices in power plants and substations. They are designed for overhead distribution networks with a maximum voltage of 36kV. They are used to isolate the downstream part of the network (Transformer, Overhead lines, System or Cables) from permanent faults and ensure complete security of maintenance interventions.

The difference between them and circuit breakers is that they do not have arc extinguishing devices, so they cannot be used to cut off or connect networks load currents and short-circuit currents.
