Wet granulator/crusher - Bottles are cut into "flakes" or small pieces with our wet granulators. In short, the granulator uses an open rotor fitted with heavy-duty knives that rotate at high speed. As the PET bottles enter the cutting chamber of the granulator, these rotating knives come into contact with the stationary knives and cut the bottles into small pieces. The size of the flakes is controlled using a screen with small holes between 12 and 18 mm in diameter; that is, the PET plastic will continue to be cut in the chamber until it is small enough to fall through the holes in the screen. All the time, water is sprayed into the cutting chamber, partially cleaning the bottle while acting as a lubricant to reduce friction between the tool and the plastic.

Label Separator - The plastic stream leaving the pelletizer consists of PET flakes, paper and PP/PE/PVC film in the label and PP/PE rigid plastic in the cap. This mixed stream is now ready for sequencing. The first step is the label separator, where a column of compressed air blows the lighter paper and plastic film into a separate collection tank. Sink / Float Separation Tank - A large water tank used to separate sunken material from floating material. This is the final separator in our PET bottle washing line and effectively removes the plastic film left on the label and PP/PE cap. Since both the label and cap float in the water, the sinking PET flakes can be easily removed for further processing in the next machine.

PET Flake Thermal Cleaner - Similar to a washing machine in nature, this PET flake stream is cleaned using boiling hot water to sanitize and further remove glue (from adhered labels), grease/oil and difficult to remove residues (beverages/food) from the equation.

High Speed Dewaterers - Dewaterers use centrifugal or "rotary" force to remove a portion of the water from the PET flakes. Drying PET flakes prior to hot drying is a cost effective method. Hot drying consumes more energy.

Thermal Dryer + Cyclone - Partially dried PET flakes can now be completely dried using a thermal dryer. In the long tube of the thermal dryer, hot air and PET flakes are mixed together, where the remaining moisture is dewatered. The final cyclone mixes the hot, moist air with the cold air stream that cools the PET flakes and prepares them for storage. The cyclone is also the last line of defense against fine powders such as dust.
