Botanical Family

Panax Ginseng C.A. Meyer, the most effective ginseng species, is cultivated and distributed in Far Eastern Asia, including China, Korea and Russia, so it is widely called as Asia Ginseng.

Asia Ginseng belongs to the Araliaceae family, which has three main genus of Panax such as: Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer, Panax quinquefolium L., (cultivated in North America), Panax notoginseng (Burk) F.H. Chen (cultivated in South China).

Modern Name of Ginseng

Russian botanist C. A. Meyer named it “Panax Ginseng” as its genus name in 1843. “Pan” means “all”, “Panax” means “cure all” in Greek, “Axos” means “heal”. The whole name means “cure all diseases to health”.

In all genus of Panax, only Asia Ginseng root possesses the shape of “Human Body”, some one looks like man, some one looks like woman.

Pronunciation of Ginseng

In the ancient times, the ginseng farmers of local remote mountain villages are not quite sure, which country or kingdom they belonged to. But one thing is convinced that, the ancient China is quite large, it included the modern Korea, Mongolia, a part of Russia, even Japan etc.

The ancient ginseng farmers called Ginseng according to the shape of it, so they pronounced it as “INSEN”, which means “Human Body”. Even now, the modern ginseng farmers of local remote mountain villages in China still call Ginseng as “YinSen”, which is just the same as the ancient “INSEN”.

There is no doubt that, Panax Ginseng is cultivated and distributed in ancient China. Even the modern Korean & Japanese have to admit also that, Chinese culture & civilization has influenced all Asia for centuries. We can assure this in the alphabetic character of the two nations.
