Characteristic:
White hexagonal crystal system crystalline or powder; odorless, nontoxic, and fine and smooth. Relative density is 5.606, refractive index 2.008-2.029, melting point 1975C. Soluble in acid, sodium hydroxide and ammonium chloride; insoluble in water, ethanol and ammonia; and it is amphoteric oxide. It can absorb carbon trioxide and water in the air to produce zinc carbonate in yellow color. While heated, it becomes yellow and resumes white after cooling down. It is ultraviolet radiation resistant, and will not become black meeting with sulfureted hydrogen.
