Part Three 


Product  Property


1、Lithium aluminum alloy powder can react with atmospheric moisture, oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide of the air. It can self-ignite in humid air. The main production after burning in the air is Lithia and alumina. Lithia can form lithium hydroxide after absorbing water.


2、React violently with water and form hydrogen which can burn and explode under some certain conditions and lithium hydroxide.


3、React violently when contacting acid and halogen.


4、The product burns easily and explodes when comes into contact with ignition source or impact during the course of shipping and using.


 


Part Four  


Using Method


1、Check if the package is intact, the label is clear and the packing list, product certificate and manual are complete before using.


2、Check if the usage date is within product validity date.


3、Check if the product has absorbed moisture or oxidation has occurred. If the package or product has expanded, split, become hot, become black and lumpy, the product can’t be used any more and need to be discarded as waste.


4、The product should be opened in the glove box with an argon atmosphere or in a drying room where the relative humidity is lower than 3%.


5、Safety precautions should be taken before opening the product and workers should wear safe work clothes, respirator, hat, glasses and gloves.


6、Taking out the product from iron can and opening glass bottle should be performed on the operating table in case explosion occurs if dropped accidentally.


7、Cut the adhesive tape around the bottle before opening it and then push off the lid of the bottle carefully. Any strong unscrewing of the lid is forbidden in case the friction causes burning and explosion.


8、Try to use all the product after opening the package. Product that can’t be used up should be put into a bottle which is sealed with paraffin and kept carefully until discarded as waste.


9、Only open one bottle of product at a time to avoid danger.


10、The operator who has water or sweat on the hands, body, or skin or has any wounds is not allowed to contact lithium aluminum powder.


11、The operators should keep a certain distance from each other to reduce any injury that may occur when there is an accident.


 


Part Five  


Description of Product Dangers


1、The danger mainly comes from the high temperature of self-burning, stimulating fog and the harm of explosion of hydrogen which is produced when product meets water.


2、Lithium hydroxide is produced when the product meets moisture on the skin, sweat, blood and the moisture around eyes and respiratory path. This will cause pain and harm to the body.


 


Part Six  


Preventive Measure


1、Respiratory: S est wearing absorbent cotton dust mask or multilayer gauze respirator with absorbent cotton inner layer.


2、Hand: Dry rubber gloves or surgical gloves for general use.


3、Eyes: S est wearing eye shield


4、Environmental measure: Product should be opened in the dry room where the relative humidity is lower than 3% or in an argon atmosphere glove box.


5、Others: Asbestos quilt, gloves, shovel and dry sands should be prepared in the working area.


 


Part Seven  


First Aid Measures


1、If you come into contact with the product, quickly wipe off as much as possible with a dry cloth then immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 5 minutes. Thoroughly wash with soap and water. Try to avoid skin damage from lithium hydroxide reacting with moisture and sweat on the surface of the skin.


2、Skin: If product has reacted with moisture and sweat on the surface of skin and causes an itching and burning feeling, daub with edible vinegar or boric acid of 2%, then flush with water.


3、Eye contact: Immediately flush with water for at least 10 minutes, See medical doctor or ophthalmologist immediately.


 


Part Eight   


Transportation Attention


1、Keep upright, handle with care and avoid impact


2、Protect against the moisture and sun when transported.


3、Product should be stored in a dangerous goods warehouse with temperature between 15-25℃, dry ground, good ventilation and relative humidity lower than 60%.


4、Wooden boxes can be piled maximum 3 layers.


5、Asbestos quilt, gloves, shovel and dry sands should be prepared in case of fire.


 


Part Nine  


Fire Protection


1、Any rush to save the fire caused by lithium aluminum alloy powder is forbidden. Because the burning lithium aluminum alloy powder is very dangerous and the lithium of the product can react with water, oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide of the air. Lots of heat was given off when burning and burning speed is very fast. The fog from burning is a strong irritant. The fire can’t be extinguished unless controlled in early stages. DO NOT USE WATER which will increase burning or even cause an explosion.


2、The dropped powder should be recovered into a dry and sealed container. If a reaction with moisture has started, the powder should be removed to an empty space to continue the burning. If it’s inconvenient to move, cover it with dry sands or an asbestos quilt. Any WATER or CARBON DIOXIDE fire extinguishers are absolutely forbidden.


3、The lithium aluminum alloy product should be removed immediately after a fire to prevent further loss. If the fire is out of control, people should leave immediately for safety reasons.


 


Part Ten  


Waste Disposal Methods


1、Lithium aluminum alloy powder should be dealt with by Specialized personnel who are familiar with it’s properties.


2、Disposal should be carried out in an open space.


3、Handlers should keep more than 3 meters away from waste.


4、Disposal method:


Method one: drop the bottle together with waste on the stone of abandoned mine pit and then burn it.


Method two: scatter the waste on some dry, empty ground then water thoroughly.


Method three: Open the lid and throw the bottle together with waste into large sump.


5、Disposal method of goods such as cloth , gloves, etc. with powder


  Remove the goods above to an empty place and spread them. Then wash them with water until the lithium aluminum alloy powder becomes a white powder.
