Center disc cutters are mounted in the middle of TBM cutterhead. Rotating radius of center disc cutters is smaller than other disc cutters, so cutter rings may slide when cutterhead rotates. In this way the cutter rings are easy to wear in some sides. Meanwhile discharge channels are too narrow to discharge rock chips and soil in time, so cutter rings and hubs will be worn by rock chips and soil.

Our center disc cutters have been improved to settle the above problems, and are always durable and efficient to bore soil and rock.

Cutter rings are forged with alloy tool steel and specially heat-treated to reach proper balance between hardness and toughness. And for different geology conditions, cutter rings are made into different profiles and width to get the maximum excavating efficiency. Tungsten carbide tips can be inserted in rings if cutters are applied in very abrasive ground.

To improve cutter retainer strength and wear resistance, cutter retainers are heat-treated up to high hardness.

To improve sealing ability under high pressure, metal floating seals are assembled in cutters. Lubrication oil will not leak and sand will not permeate, in this way cutter bearings have long lifetime.

According to working conditions, cutters starting torque is adjusted to proper level by preloading bearings correctly in complex ground conditions especially in soft ground, in order that cutters rotate freely and are prevented from being blocked.
