Product Description
1、This product is a kind of compound resin which is produced by condensation reaction between polyvinyl alcohol and Butyraldehyde, with acid as catalyst. This product is called PVB in chemistry. It has excellent adhesive for glass, metal, materials, ceramics, leather, and fibers besides its high transparency, good light-ressitance, cold-resistance, and water-resistance, and impact-resistance. Now it has been widely used in all departments of industry such as middle film of safety glass, porcelain-use paper, protection primer of metal, insulation paint, fiber processing agent, and printing ink, dye, artificial sponge and etc. Our product is characterized by no harm, no odor, good adhesive, and no mechanical wastes, and high transparency.

三、Major Properties:
1、Physical properties:
A: The appearance is flowing white granular powder, with density of 0.17-0.4g/cm3 temperature lowering to 60℃, and vitrification temperature being 57℃, and softening temperature being 60℃-75℃.
B: Dissolution: PVB is not soluble in water but in many organic solvents such as alcohol, ester, and ketone. Furthermore, it can mix with many kinds of plasticisers, such as PBT, Fatty Acid Esters and etc. The film formed by them has strong adhesive force, good transparency, water-resistance, and light-resistance. In addition, it can be mix with various resins such as phenolic resin, Urea Resin, epoxy resin, and natural resins and etc.
C: It is resistant to inorganic acid and fat as well as excellent insulation, climate-resistance, water-resistance, and strong aging-resistance.
2、Chemical Properties:
(1)PVB is stable in chemical nature. It can decompose in the acid or alkali.
(2)It starts to decompose when the temperature reaches 100℃. It decomposes completely at 200℃-240℃.
(3)It can undertake Ethylene saponification reaction, hydroxy esterification reaction,
a: hydrolyzation will occur in dilute acid, when there are some double bonds upon the cross junction between the molecules, with the Acetic Acid hydrolyzes further.
b: It will produce transparent solvent when heated, at the same time aldehyde comes out of it.
c: It can neutralize the free acid, and improve the stability of resin when heated in dilute alkali of 1%.
d、If it boils with alkali of 3%, the acetic acid will further hydrolyze.
e、Salt in it works as catalyst in acetal process. Too much of salt will harm the process for example Zncl2、Cacl2、Alcl2、NaHso3。
4)Reaction with organic matters
a, With the alcohol as solvent, PVB will emit some of aldehyde under the function of phosphoric acid
b、PVB in the glacial acetic acid can produce ester in the reaction with ACETIC ANHYDRIDE with Zncl2 as catalyst.
c、PVB emits lots of hydroxide in the alcohol with acid in it.
四、The scope of application and functions:
PVB is mainly used in safety glass interlayer, adhesives, paints.
1, Transparent materials: PVB shows its strong binding force for inorganic and organic glass with high transparency. In addition, It can be used as interlayer of safety glass. The safety glass with PVB as interlayer now is widely used in windshield of auto, and airplane just because this kind of glass with PVB as interlayer has strong impact-resistance, high transparency, water-resistance, and aging-resistance. It can also work well at the temperature of 60℃. So it can replace the product with organic glass as transparent materials.
2、Paints: As there are many advantages for PVB such as high binding force, anti-coldness, oil-resistance, anti-wearing, and good anti-corrosion, It has been widely applied in the following aspects:
(1)Wood paints: It can be used as surface processing agent, and bottom paint of hard board and insulation board.
(2)Metal paints: It can improve the thermosetting resin's impact-resistance, flexibility, and viscosity together with natural resin, compound resin, and drying oil.
(3)Bottom paint of metal: It has strong binding force for PVB and excellent viscidity for top paints. So it can used as primer of steel, aluminum, galvanization, iron, and copper and etc. It is widely used in diving cylinder of ships, submarine, and floatplane and as coating of oil derrick of drilling machine, bridge, and electric appliances.
(4)Metal ink: It can serve as metal-use ink for aluminum and copper board together with nitrocellulose and acid resin.
(5)Paint of Metal tank: A coat of PVB on the surface of metal foil (aluminum foil)can improve the intensity and anti-moisture. It is widely used in packaging chocolate, biscuits and medicine and parts of camera etc.
(6)Dope for braising and plating in vacancy: alcohol solution of PVB can adhere hard onto the surface of plastics, paper and metal, so it can be used for vacuum braising and plating, such as adhesive for plating aluminum in vacancy and dope on processing surface.
(7)Dope for concrete: PVB can improve the anti- wear of paint film.
(8)Dope of water-proof: It can be more effective to add PVB to Water-proof lacquer of cloth ,it can be made into tent ,coat, food bag, raincoat and rain cape.
(9)Dope for leather: PVB film display tensility in normal temperature and keep the tensility in low temperature, so it can be made into soft and spring involucra, which has become PVB's unique nature.
(10)Varnish protecting dope: varnish used for wood-crafts, lacquer for metal and for metal's plating surface.
3、adhesive: PVB contains (hydroxy, acetyl and aldehyde), possessing strong felt nature, so it can be made into all kinds of adhesive.(1)Adhesive of glass: PVB has strong binding force, proper spring and softness. So it can be used to conglutinate glass.
(2)Adhesive of metal: Mixed with phenol-formaldehyde resin, PVB can be confected into contract phenol-formaldehyde glue of varies trademark which can be used to adhesive of all kines of metal. After smearing the solution onto the metal, heat up and roll the metal after the solvmenthas being vaporized.
(3)Conglutination of enameled wire loop: smearing PVB solution onto the loop, binding the loop after being heated.
(4)Heat sealing adhesive: Mixed with savageness resin, vinelite and plastisizer. It can be used as Heat sealing adhesive.
(5)Adhesive for transfer label trademark: PVB can be used for transfer label trademark of figuline, thus the working procedure will be saved and the products' quality will be improved .It can make the ceramics more colorful and glabrous. It has been used widely as figuline's. In addition, it can also be used as textile's transfer label.
(6)Film for conglutination: mixed with other vinylite and synthetic rubber, it can be used for conglutination among cloths or other materials.
(7)Press-sensitive adhesive: serve as press-sensitive adhesive tape such as cellophane adhesive tape's, polythene adhesive tape's and adhesive etc.
(8)Other adhesives : It can be used as non-woven cloth's ,static velvet's and leather's.
4、The application in fiber processing:
(1)Smearing: If PVB solution with plasticizer is smeared on all kinds of textiles ,It enable the textile to be water-proof and pollution resistance. Furthermore, it will keep the original handle and style. The addition of joint resins and solidification agent can improve the effect of procession. It is the same with PVB emulsion.
(2)Fiber treatment agent: PVB moisture included plasticizer ,is applied as treatment agent of cotton textile ,abrasion-resistant, shrink-resistant and stiffening agent. After sized, all kinds of fiber become soft and smooth,and anti-insolation.
(3)Printing and dyeing of the fabrics: Both of the solution and latex of PVB are applied to dyeing and printing of textile, with very results. The product is washable and never fade in color.
(4)Arrangement of other resins: It can improve flexibility and softness and anti-wearing.
(5)Making: PVB and compound rubber such as compound of butadiene rubber and neoprene ,can form mechanic and electric component with hard and strong impact-resistance as well as soft pipe ,hard pipe, rods etc.
