Cnidium Monnieri P.E. Osthole
A pro-erectile herb from Traditional Chinese Medicine, Cnidium monnieri and its main bioactive known as osthole appear to have mechanisms similar to Vgra in penile tissue and the hippocampus; the influence of cnidium monnieri on testosterone and cognition remains unexplored. The plant itself is referred to as Cnidium Monnieri, whereas the vertical root aspect is referred to as Rhizome Cnidii. The fruits tend to be used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, where the seeds are referred to as She chuang zi and has the Japanese name of Jashoshi.
Cnidium seed contains several compounds including coumarins osthol or osthole, xanthotoxol, imperatorin, bergapten, monoterpene polyols, glucides and hepatoprotective sesquiterpenes. Osthole has been found in studies to have anti tumor activity and to be helpful in strengthening bones.
