Calcined Petroleum coke is a black or dark gray solid petroleum product with metallic luster and porosity. It is a carbon body formed by tiny graphite crystals forming granular, columnar or needle-like structures. Petroleum coke components are hydrocarbons, 90-97 percent carbon, 1.5 to 8 percent hydrogen, and nitrogen, chlorine, sulfur and heavy metal compounds.
Petroleum coke is a byproduct of the pyrolysis of raw material oil in the production of light oil in high temperature. The production of petroleum coke is about 25-30% of the raw material oil. Its low heat energy is about 1.5 to 2 times of coal, the ash content is not greater than 0.5%, the volatilization rate is about 11%, and the quality is close to anthracite.
The calcined petroleum coke is used as the pre-baked anode and anode paste for electrolytic aluminum and the carbon industry to produce carbon, graphite electrode, smelting industrial silicon and fuel.
The calcined petroleum coke is used in the graphite electrode of the steelmaking process, or the anode paste (melt electrode) of the magnesium, which is used to make the petroleum coke (raw) to be used in the process of calcining. Usually in the calcining temperature of 1300 ℃ or so, the purpose is to volatile petroleum coke to remove as much as possible. Which can reduce the hydrogen content in petroleum coke products again, increase the degree of graphitization of petroleum coke, so as to improve the high temperature strength and heat resistance of graphite electrode, and improve the electrical conductivity of the graphite electrode. Calcining is mainly used to produce graphite electrode, carbon paste products, diamond sand, food grade phosphorus industry, metallurgical industry and calcium carbide. The most widely used is graphite electrode. The raw coke can be used directly for calcium carbide as the main material for calcium carbide and boron carbide for grinding materials. It can also be directly used as a coke or blast furnace wall for coal brick, as well as the casting process.
