Bifidobacterium breve(B.breve), is in the Bifidobacterium family, it is a Gram-positive bacteria that is non-motile, anaerobic, and non-spore forming. B.breve is a common and sometimes very abundant inhabitant of the human gut (include the infant’s gut), it can also be isolated in other environments, including human milk, the adult gut, and human vagina. The optimized cultivation temperature for B.breve is below 37℃. What the metabolic mechanism for B.breve is can be heteromorphosis to ferment glucose, galactose, fructose etc to produce Lactic Acid, Acetic Acid, also to produce Enzymes, Vitamins etc. The presence of Bifidobacterium spp in the human gut has been correlated with particular health-promoting effects, such as enforcement of the intestinal barrier, activation/modulation of the host's immune response andprotection against particular infections and for this reason representatives of this genus have been included as active ingredients in functional foods.
