1, PCD Material Features:
PCD (Polycrystalline diamond) material has a very high and excellent wear resistance, making it an ideal tool material, but PCD tool sharpening processing is very difficult,  it mainly does not ensure PCD tool sharpening quality, tool sharpening efficiency is lower, sharpening mechanism is complex.
2, Diamond Grinding Wheel for PCD Tool Grinding Process
Grinding wheel for PCD tool grinding refers to directly grinding PCD tools on special PCD tool grinding machine by diamond grinding wheel. Since the PCD grinding is a diamond grinding process, it is very different from the ordinary grinding process. So the performance of the diamond grinding wheel is equally important, grinding wheel's grit, concentration, and binding agent type etc parameters have a great effect on PCD tool sharpening quality and sharpening efficiency.
3 .Select for Grinding Wheel
3.1 Selection of Grit Size
The smaller the grit size of the grinding wheel, the more smooth of the surface grinding, the lower roughness of the surface grinding. Course grit grinding wheel should be chosen on the condition that generally meet the cutting PCD tool edge processing quality requirements.
It can guarantee the quality of processing, but also can improve work efficiency. Choosing one grit kind of grinding wheel for PCD tool grinding, it is difficult to achieve satisfactory results. Generally, should choose 2 – 3 kinds of grit size of grinding wheel for course and fine grinding.
3.2 Select for binding agent
 Currently there are resin bond ,metal bond and vitrified bond for diamond grinding wheel. They have different characteristics, they will be used according to the processing methods and processing conditions.
3.2.1  Metal Bond diamond grinding wheel characteristics
 Bronze bond diamond grinding wheel features good shaping molding, high strength, toughness and not good self-sharpening.
3.2.2 Resin bond diamond grinding wheel characteristics
 High strength, good elasticity, combined with a solid, but the resin material is polymer material, no fixed melting point, poor heat resistance, when the grinding temperature reaches 200-300℃, it ability to combine greatly reduced.
3.2.3 Vitrified bond diamond grinding wheel characteristics
 Vitrified bond diamond grinding wheel features high hardness, strong self-sharpening, chemical stability, heat and acid resistant and low cost.

In view of the above, for the grinding PCD tool, since the resin binding agent  is more soft, easy to deformation when grinding, can not effectively grinding PCD tool. Metal binding agent makes grinding wheel poor self-sharpening owing to strong combination of abrasive grains. It has low grinding efficiency, and the metal bond diamond grinding wheel will cause the PCD tool edge serious damage. According to grinding efficiency, durable and workpiece surface processing quality, vitrified bond diamond grinding wheel is ideal choice for PCD tool.
