Barcode cards are divided into two types: one-dimensional codes and two-dimensional codes
There are many types of barcodes, and there are about twenty common coding systems, including: Code39 (Standard 39), Codebar (Kudbar), Code25 (Standard 25), ITF25 (Cross 25), Matrix 25 (Matrix 25), UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-13 (EAN-13 International Commodity Barcode), EAN-8 (EAN-8 International Commodity Barcode), China Post Code (a variant of Matrix 25), Code-B, MSI, Code11, Code93, ISBN, ISSN, Code-8 One dimensional barcodes such as Code128 (including EAN128), Code39EMS (EMS specific 39), and two-dimensional barcodes such as PDF417.
Barcode technology is an automatic recognition technology widely used in commercial, postal, library management, warehousing, industrial production process control, transportation and other fields. It has the advantages of fast input speed, high accuracy, low cost, and strong reliability, and occupies an important position in today's automatic recognition technology. Barcode technology is a technology that integrates coding, printing, recognition, data collection, and processing, developed on the basis of computer technology and information technology. The fruits, honey, and other items we buy from supermarkets will definitely have codes on the fruit boxes and honey cans, whether they are barcodes made by the supermarket itself or barcodes on the manufacturer's trademark.
The information carried by one-dimensional barcodes is limited. For example, barcodes on goods can only accommodate 13 Arabic numerals (EAN-13 code), and more information can only rely on the support of the product database. Without a pre established database, this type of barcode is meaningless, thus limiting its application scope to a certain extent. For this reason, two-dimensional barcodes were invented in the 1990s. In addition to the advantages of one-dimensional barcodes, two-dimensional barcodes also have the advantages of large information content, high reliability, strong confidentiality, and anti-counterfeiting.
Two dimensional barcodes can incorporate photos and fingerprints, effectively solving the problems of machine readable and anti-counterfeiting of documents. Therefore, it can be widely used in passports, ID cards, driving permits, military certificates, health certificates, insurance cards, etc. PDF417 technology has been used for driver's licenses, US military licenses, and military medical certificates in more than ten states, including Arizona, several years ago. Encoding personal information and photos on documents into two-dimensional barcodes not only enables automatic recognition of the ID card, but also effectively prevents the occurrence of counterfeit documents. Many countries such as the Philippines, Egypt, and Bahrain have also adopted two-dimensional barcode technology on their ID cards or driver's licenses, and our Hong Kong SAR passport also uses two-dimensional barcode technology. In addition, there are also examples of using two-dimensional barcode technology to solve data input and prevent forgery, deletion, and modification of forms in customs declaration forms, long-distance freight bills, tax reports, and insurance registration forms. In some regions of China, two-dimensional barcodes have also been preliminarily applied in areas such as certified public accountant certification and automotive sales and after-sales service.
