Brazing Characteristics
Sanhuan Phos-Copper-Silver brazing alloy SAgP-5 is a copper rich brazing filler metal. The phosphorous content form its "self-fluxing" properties when used on copper. However, when joint copper base alloys, such as brass or bronze, braze with flux SFB-102 is recommended. This filler metal should not be used on ferrous or nickel-based alloys or on copper-nickel alloys containing a nickel content in excess of 10%, as brittle intermetallic compounds are formed at the filler metal-base metal interface. Normally the corrosion resistance of Sanhuan SAgP-5 is of the same order as copper, but is it be used in the joints exposed to sulfur compounds, especially in gasses or oils at temperatures above normal room temperature. As the corrosion by sulfur is cumulative, even very small percentages will eventually cause failure of the joint by disintegration. Exposure to pressured steam can also result in accelerated corrosion.
Application
Sanhuan Phos-Copper-Silver brazing alloy SAgP-5 is slightly more fluid than SAgP-15A and has a lower liquidus temperature. It is used extensively in the form of preplaced rings in heat exchanger and tubing joints. Joint clearances of 0.002in. to 0.005in.[0.05mm to 0.13mm] are recommended.
