Description of Phloretin

Phloretin is a dihydrochalcone separated from the peel and root of apple or pear. It is a white crystalline powder without hygroscopicity. Soluble in ethanol and acetone, insoluble in water.

Application

1. To inhibit the bitter and other uncomfortable taste in food by blends of other sweeteners NHDC or trilobatin. Phloretin can mask the unpleasant aftertaste of other sweetener;

2.Skin whitening: inhibition of tyrosinase activity and melanin precipitation, whitening the pigmentation of skin. Compared with similar natural ingredients arbutin and kojic acid, phloretin has better inhibition ability than those; it can also produce significant synergistic effect with arbutin or kojic acid, and greatly increase tyrosinase inhibition.

3. Skin care: neutralizes free radicals, accelerates cell turnover, and reduces the production of unwanted pigment.

4. Food sauces: food flavor

Regulatory Status

1. Included in the Standards for Uses of Food Additives (GB2760-2011) as a food flavor (#N376);

2. Joint Expert Committee on food additives (JECFA) regulations included (#2022);

3. GRAS by the Expert Panel of FEMA as a flavor ingredient (#4390).

 

Recommended Dosage

1. Ingredient of cosmetics (mask, creams and lotions): 0.3 ~ 5%;

2. Food flavor: according to the requirements.
