Description of Trilobatin

Trilobatin is a dihydrochalcone glycoside sweetener separated from Lithocarpus polystachyus Rehd. It’s a yellowwish crystalline powder without hygroscopicty, slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water and ethanlo.

Application

Trilobatin is a low calorific sweetener roughly 300 times sweeter than sugar, widely used in beverages, ice-creams, wines, desserts, bakery products, candies, chewing guns, etc. Trilobatin was also proved to be the inhibitor of the key enzymes of diabetes.

Regulatory Status

1. Joint Expert Committee on food additives (JECFA) regulations included (#2171);

2. GRAS by the Expert Panel of FEMA as a flavor ingredient (#4674).
